As far as I understand it will, on one condition that they both have thg he same front diff ratio. ( Suggestion, get the rear diff from the donor car as well. )

No it won't because its different. From what i can tell the 2001 was a one year only transmission. Where are you located? I have a 98 legacy outback with a bad engine but good transmission.

Him didn't realize the did the one year only on that one. What is different about it? I knew about the phase 1 phase 2 electronics changeover during the 98 usdm model year.

Also interested in location. I may have access to a 99 trans. I am in central Texas.

Not sure the difference but i just found out that there are two different transmissions in 99. The TZ10 is 98-99 and the TZ1A is 99 only. I enjoy searching things to learn more about our beloved subarus

Just trying bring this back to the top, i have a 99 outback with the JEBA tranny. It has the dreaded lag going into drive. I have a 98 tranny available but understand i need 99 -03 outback or 99-02 forester but haven't seen for sure. Does anyone know for sure?
