I have a 2003 outback legacy, I love it but the transmission has started to slip badly. I have called around to some salvage yards and transmissions seem to be more than I want spend.
A guy at work has a buddy with a 2003 imprezza with a bad motor.
I can pick it up cheaply. Am I correct in assuming that the automatic transmission in both of these are the same?

You could try stop-slip ‘in a bottle’ first as well as fluid changes. I expect it’s a ‘4eat’ in both cars but not 100% sure. Mileage?

There could be a difference in ring and pinion ratio of the front differential.

And what do you mean by "slipping badly"?
