What are my options for the best year-round tires I can get for my 2009 Outback with 90k miles? I live just outside of NYC.

Do you think winter tires are necessary during the colder season?

Well that depends on alot of the types of roads you are dealing with. Average snow fall. Distance traveled per day and so on. There is no one absolute best tire out there.

You need to pick 3 things you want the tire to do and prioritize them from Excel at. Be good at. Be usable at. IE: Good cornering summer tire. Tread Life. Quiet Tire. Good on ice. Good In rain so on.

Then from there we can help you pick the best tire to fit your bill.

I'm getting Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 put on next weekend. Had them before on other cars, fine 3-season tire and won't leave my stranded in the snow. Not as good as a dedicated snow tire, but adequate for PNW winters and skiing

1- No such this as a "best" tire. Everything is a compromise.

2- Oh hey, there is an entire forum dedicated to tires! I'm gonna move this thread there.
