My 2005 subaru outback 2.5se has a faulty alarm siren unit. The subaru dealer diagnosed the fault after it going nuts the last few days. However the cost for a new part is insane and the labour expensive.

There are subaru alarm sirens on eBay or from breakers yards at a fraction of the cost. Can anyone here provide guidelines or diagrams to remove the siren and replace as I want to do the job myself

The garage was a main well respected authorised Subaru dealer and workshop with subaru technicians etc. they had the car for 1hr to diagnose the problem. They quoted new alarm siren and 2hrs labour to fix.

The symptoms were as follows:
- Car was parked up and locked early evening and then the alarm started going off. I came outside thinking it was being broken into (we live in the country side).
- no matter what I did with locking and unlocking the car and resetting the alarm it was going off. So I disconnected battery which stopped it.
- the alarm siren did not sound normal and was irratic / hi and low resonating and inconsistent
- the only way to stop it was to start the car... Or disconnect the battery.
- we did call out our RAC car breakdown chap... Who could not fix it and chose to disconnect the flashing lights and alarm siren. The immobiliser was still functioning fine.

Hence next step to the subaru dealer..

I'm curious about the passenger switch though so will do some checks...

The garage I bought the car from has agreed to pay for the full repair at a subaru authorised garage which is very good news. So it's booked into my local subaru garage to be done with replacement siren being fitted as they diagnosed. Then at least the diagnosis and repair are done by the same garage and I should not have to pay.

That's good that you get a cost free repair. But the horn doesn't create it's own power. There is most likely another issue.

That's why I'm leaving it for the subaru garage to resolve as if they have diagnosed it wrong then it's not my fault if they fit a new part that was not the problem... I hope?
