Changed the oil and diffs over to Amsoil this weekend. Oil was no big deal. Front diff looked a little sludgie with some very fine metal. Rear looked OK, but had very fine metal. I hope this is normal? Next step is to convert the tranny. But, I have a couple of questions some of you may be able to answer.

1) I've read here that you need to drain the convertor. How is this done?

2) Anyone that has already converted the tranny, how are the longer term results so far?

Looking forward to the extended drain periods. :D

Check/click this thread: Outback is ALL Synthetic

Also do a search for synthetic, synthetics, Mobil, Amsoil, etc if you already haven't as I know of many "synthetic oil change" type threads around here ;)

BTW, "Chevy Hoe" now thats great! :21:

4eat trans fluid

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum. Just bought a '96 Legacy Outback for my elderly Mom.
Love it so far!
I found this post very interesting!
I'm a PROUD owner of a '92 SVX.
It uses the same tranny (basically) as the Outback's, just a little stronger inside.
But, the early versions had a fluid flow/cooling problem. The port that sends the fluid out to the radiator/trans cooler was too small to be efficient. MANY SVX's have had trannys replaced because of this.
Majority of us now use either Mobil 1 or Redline for our trans fluid. It has a much higher working temp range. So it protects everything much better.
Remember, temp. is the biggest enemy/problem for an automatic tranny!
Just thought I would add some '4eat' trans experience for you all to absorb.
Thanks for all the great info on this forum.
I look forward to many happy posts!
Thanks, milehibri - Brian
