my car squeeks A LOT when i go over bumps, im pretty sure its the roof basket but i dont wanna take it off to be sure because of all the wiring for my lights. just curious if anyone else has experienced this issue and what steps could be taken to alleviate the problem. right now i just have hardware store u bolts holding the basket to the factory cross rails on my '11.

You off-road this...for years now. Parts of this car are held together with zip-ties...

And you have squeaks (maybe even rattles) using cheap hardware....



Not hating...but, confused?

Maybe your rack/basket mounted lights that are the problem?

Disclaimer...I don't have a Gen4 But I have a LoadWarrior on Thule Cross bars that gets me wind noise...no squeaks. I run it from time to time..

cheap easy way to diagnosis what is squeaking: white lithium grease. carry some and spray it around one fastener/ fitting at a time. when you stop hearing the noise you found the culprit. (I guess the same noise could change from a "squeak" to a slight vibration from the lube)

I would use white lithium spray grease in places like this

vs. WD40, which although great also attracts dust.

Can we get pics of this questionable mounting? Try isolating/cushioning it with rubber. Or spend a couple bucks and do it the right way.

I would think such things may vibrate a little with the wind drag and loosen enough overtime,
so as they need some tightening over extended periods of being on the car 24/7.

maybe with red locktite type goo.
