I'm just curious if an alignment is recommended after replacing the front ball joints? also if an alignment is done with bad ball joints is the alignment no good. I have a 2004 outback 2.5l. Thank you.
Your second question actualy helps answer the first.
With a worn ball joint, the alignment that was done will attempt to compensate for the bad ball joints. Typically, more positive camber is set to try to account for the additional freeplay at the bottom connecting point of the wheel at the steering axis. So when the ball joint is replaced, the additional positive camber is now excesive.
You should get another alignment done.
Havent had an alignment done yet, just wanted to be sure if I should replace my ball joints before I got one. The rubber boots around them are solid and there isnt any free play but they do move around quite easily by hand not much resistance.
