I used a towel in the car that I would wipe my legs/neck etc with. Use on to sit on as well. Hope you find what you like to work..BTW At least your in N. Cali and not Alabama or Florida with the sticky humidity.

Yeah, pretty much been using a towel but if I continue to sweat I worry about the towel just soaking through into the seat and towels never seem to stay tucked in under the headrest. Then it's a wadded up wet towel poking me in the back for the ride home :O

A side issue...

What everyone offered as a solution is great. Taking things one step further and to a new dimension... Does anyone have any recommendations for the instances when you transport cats? Caging them for a 6 plus hour drive doesn't work too well. For 5 1/2 hours they will sleep but the other half hour they will be climbing on the seats and telling me how to drive. Cloth seats weren't an option for my 3.6R limited. To this point I have been using towels... but that looks terrible.

We only bring cats to vet. In a cage. They sing "the song of their people" the whole ride.

I am good with the local vet runs. I do have to wear chain mail when putting them into their carriers though. For some odd reason, they KNOW when they are going to the vet vs. a long drive for vacation.

I got seat covers from CalTrend in Santa Ana, Cali for my cloth seats as I felt the "wheat" color was too light for muddy dog's feet. Got the "I Can't Believe it's Not Leather" . Love them! Well made, no slippage, perfect fit, includes the headrests, and I got to design. Did the 2 tone with black on the outer edges of the seat as this is most prone to my coffee spills . A bit pricey but much cheaper than $3000 for leather interior. People don't even know they aren't leather. I only got for the front seat, use a towel for the backseat. Have held up to dirt, mud, coffee just fine.

I got leather because firstly there is no option to not have it on touring edition BUT I was gonna get them as it is.

I'm from India and a few stereotypes hold true to be honest. My nose is neutral, I do not know when I'm reeking. I put on deo and perfume to make me a welcome guest.

The leather wont absorb the sweat and stink up the car in long run.

I use https://www.amazon.com/Lexol-1115-Interior-Leather-Cleaner/dp/B0002F9YIC/ to keep it up to date.

Just got a cherry '01 with leather seats that are still in perfect shape. I have a machine and fabrication shop, so my clothes can get rather dirty. Then the dirt transfers to the seat and lap belt, and on to my non-work clothes - had that problem with my '96 Legacy wagon and had to give up light colored pants or use a towel to keep the crud from being transferred!

Any recommendations for covers than can be installed and removed quickly, AND absorb sweat, etc?

Also, what are the best treatments for the leather itself to keep it soft and crack-free?

Any verbotten cleaning fluids to be avoided?

Thanks

Shouldve asked the prior owner what they used to keep them so good :) It was obviously working.

I used Mequiars RichLeather Cleaner/Conditioner regularly on my old Acura. Sold it with the leather still supple and nice.

Im using ChemicalGuys leather protectsnt serum now. I like it, absorbs better, less greasy. But I have no long term experience to convey.

Many say that the primary need is good regular cleaning to keep grit from grinding off the protective layers. An issue you may have in particular.

Absorbing sweat is bad, you want to repel sweat and moisture. Not absorb and pas it into the interior where it cant dry fast. That is what happens with cloth seats. Bacteria and stink sets in.
