I know, I know .... Outback's are great in snow so they don't need cables or chains, and they may damage the car. However, if you drive in the mountains of California, it's not uncommon for California Highway Patrol to stop you at "chain control" sites and make you at least show that you have chains/cables, and may make you put them on. So I want to buy a set to leave in the back of my Outback to show them and hopefully never use.

Any suggestion on specific brands/types? The owner's manual is not helpful.

Thank you!

If you need wires on your Outback, the roads and checkpoints will have long ago closed. If you are worried about CHP asking for chains (won't happen) buy the cheapest set of cables you can.

Thanks, I'm looking at the same ones. Have you ever driven with them? Thank you.
Scott, I have not had a chance to use them yet just picked them up this past spring. Hope to never need them but they will be in the car just in case.
