Blown second Rear KYB - Gen 2 valving

So as many others, I always thought the valving in the rear for the Gen 3 was a bit soft and floaty on my '06 LL Bean. So i went with the KYB rears for Gen 2 and now with less than 15k miles, i have blown them both. It's my wife's car and it's mostly commuter driving. I guessing I'm headed back to Gen 3 valve land. Any thoughts on this? Anyone else have this problem? Since I need to buy 2 new rears, suggestions?

Any chance the springs are shot and allowing them to fully compress (or extend) repeatedly? That would shorten the shock life in a hurry.

FWIW I went w/ the Gen3 assembled KYB's (new springs, top hat, etc) in the rear of mine and it rides beautifully, but far too soon to determine longevity. The were ~$83/ea from RockAuto.
