Break in engine after short block replacement?

1281 1
Hello,

My friend just had a short block replacement on his oil burner 2013 Outback with 57000 miles. Does he have to break in the engine again? Looking at the parts list, short block and piston rings were replaced, but piston was not.

Anything else he should watch out for?

Thanks!
