Break in period?

I think the owners manual says something like - vary your speed, dont use cruise control.
Thats about it.

Keep the RPM's below 4000 and vary speed a bit on the freeway for about a thousand miles. Manual says no cruise. Welcome and congrat's on the new ride.

I would hate to have to drive the 1998 Ford Escort wagon (grocery getter) to St Louis with the brand new outback sitting in the garage.

I would hate to drive a 98 Escort period. I remember when Ford first introduced the car. It had the globe emblem on it. Small and boxey. Sounded like a lawn mower. My dad worked for a Ford dealership and drove one for a week to feel it out. Picture a 245 lb Scott getting in a small box and driving down the road. I made fun of it for about 5 minutes. He didn't think it was funny.
