Bubble on '17 dashboard

3912 Views 14 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  RoughDiamond
So I have noticed a bubble/blister on the dashboard of my brand new Outback. It is on the passenger side/center close to the windshield. When I push it down it depresses below the dashboard, like a hole. I will take a picture of it tomorrow but was wondering if anyone has seen this on their Gen 5? Mine is a 2017 (05/2017 build date) 2.5I Limited. The car has 3,500 miles on it and so far has been a joy to own/drive.
Thanks

It ought to be under warranty, and you don't have to ask if this is normal in order to justify getting a replacement. Complain and it should be fixed.
Here is the dimple. I will contact my dealer and SOA today!

Buble on dashboard

If he tried to get on the dash - I'm surprised that's the only damage!

Okay, sorry 1 lucky Texan, do not get it.
Anyway I did go to my dealer last week to take a look at it. The warranty claims guy came out took a look and said, "hmmm weird, never seen that before". He typed something up and told me they will contact me. Today I got a call that my new dashboard was in! What? Ok cool but now I hope they can put it back together properly!! I plan on keeping this car a long time.

just a poor joke.

Yeah, maybe because of horror stories from decades ago but, I always have concerns when folks tell me the dealer is removing their dash - seems like a recipe to end-up with a squeak or rattle more annoying than the original complaint. Fingers crossed you get fixed up with no drama.

I have one that slightly raised on the same side. It is where the airbag is mounted. Documented it with the dealer but leave it alone. If they screw with it or replace the dash it could lead to other issues. Also, if it's a lease and your not keeping it who cares?

Mr Bubble has been just about everywhere. Now, the Outback has become so popular, he had to see what the buzz was all about.

History - Mr. Bubble

Maybe there is a Mr Bubble Fizzy Bomb under there.
Oh my..Thanks for all the clarification on Buble's BUBBLE :)

It is not a lease so I was concerned if the thing got bigger..and BIGGER... A wee bit concerned that they jack up the replacement so not sure if I should just let it go or take my chances..I guess worst case I take it back if they mess it up.

Previously I had a '98 Lincoln Mark VIII, They were notorious for HVAC blend door failure. To fix the problem, the dash had to be removed. In the 17 years I owned it, the dash was removed 3 times with no problems with rattles or squeaks.
If it's any consolation, if the dealer has their hands in it to fix, and causes more problems, guess who gets to deal with it? The dealer.

Better them as removing that dash is a mountain of work.
