As it says we are getting an intermittent CE light on our 2006 outback 2.5i manual transmission (125,000 miles). This seems to point to a detected lean condition in Cylinder 1. I have done some searching here and elsewhere and can't find a good starting point and i was hoping there is a typical cause for this problem on these cars. I am trying to avoid throwing parts at it until it goes away.

thoughts are plugs, wires, coilpack, intake air leak, dirty MAF, Oxygen sensor, others?

I checked for obvious leaks and cleaned the MAF.

I should have added that the problem only occurs while driving but under a variety of driving conditions. usually a small hiccup in acceleration followed by back to normal.
