So I got the codes read out. PO301 and PO420. The association of these codes with a over timing (advanced) engine noise, knock, ping is my concern. I don't have to worry about emissions or turning the light off specifically, just getting the knock out of the engine. Thanks for any help here.

knock sensors seem to get replaced a lot. Check it for cracks, if you replace it, position it the same and use the proper torque on the bolt.

more details about the car might help.

Well I found my PO301 problem: spark plug was worn and had about an .080" gap. The rest were closer and in better shape but of course changed them all. Did the pcv valve as well. She sounds much better and on a short run shes been able to exceed the previous threshold that caused my cel to flash. Thanks duavan!
