I bought my new Subaru on 3/10/12 five days before the $500 Costco card promotion but Costco contacted me and told me to send in the form anyway and they would "push it through."

**They also hinted that I paid too much for my car and that I should have demanded to work with only the people on their authorized list, show my card when I arrive, and demand to see the Costco price sheet. I might have paid too much because I never saw the price sheet. MSRP was 27,790 I paid 26,400 for a 2.5 Premium CVT all weather package.**

**EDIT: I was contacted by Costco again and they said I paid less then the program so all was good. Program was $450 OVER invoice, go figure. Subaru will have to approve the $500 but I should hear back in 6-8 weeks.

I saw on Edmunds.com this was close to invoice which is what I assumed the Costco program was.

So If you bought your car a little sooner than 3/15 there might be a little room for Costco to get you the $500 Costco card anyway. You must have bought a vehicle through the dealership through the Costco program to qualify.

That's not what I was told; I didn't buy through Costco because there wasn't a participating dealer in my marketplace.

Truth be told, I think you need only be an active Costco member to participate. I signed-up for the promo......was properly validated as a purchaser (and, as I recall, a Costco member).....answered the very simple/brief phone survey......and received word today via E-mail that my cash card had been sent. In other words, if you didn't buy from a Costco dealer, don't let that discourage you from signing up.

Fortunately, we took delivery of our new OB on 3/16/12; one day after the promo began. So, we're not in the same position as those trying to be "fit into the promo" before the commence date.

In your case it is possible that because there was no participating dealer they made sure you got the benefit anyway. What I typed was not what I meant I guess anyway. What I meant was that you are supposed to be a Costco member and go through their program. I have had people tell me that the dealer told them about the promotion and the dealer signed them up while they were buying the car. From the website and what I was told on the phone, "To qualify for this offer, Costco members must: (1) Register with the Costco Auto Program to locate a dealership participating in this promotion."

We can only report what we were told right?

I still have not got my $500. I was told it would have to go through Subaru first and Costco could not simply push it through. It's been a couple weeks since that discussion but I'm not upset about it either way.

I actually got my 500.00 Costco card yesterday. I tried going through the Costco approved dealership and they were more expensive than a local competitor. I called Costco auto back and explained that their dealership was more $ - in the end It appears you can buy from any Subaru dealer. (mine was not the costco one...) Once you buy you go to the Costco automotive site, click the rebate link and fill out your info. Costco cross checks it with Subaru to confirm a purchase was made. They then email you back a link with a questionnaire. You fill that out and then wait for the card. All in all, from filling out initial rebate to getting card was about 5 weeks.
