Well, I attempted to change the diff fluid in my 2011 Outback 2.5i CVT. I tried for a while to remove the rear diff fill bolt...did not attempt the drain bolt. It's only about 40 degrees at the moment and I didn't have any WD-40 or liquid wrench on hand, so I'm holding off at the moment.

Does anybody have any recommendations to remove the diff drain and fill bolts without access to a heat source, like a small torch?

If the breaker bar doesn't do it, or there isn't enough clearance or height to use it (was my problem), try the jack method mentioned in this thread.
