Ok I meant a virtual gear. If I’m going, say 5-15 on a roll and floor it, it doesn’t simulate shift into the higher RPM power band. I literally have to floor it twice to get it to kick down to “first gear”. This is frustrating because if I’m trying to overtake a car I another lane, the max power isn’t readily available unless I floor it twice. It’s a 3.6.

Does anyone have this same problem?

First gear? Really? Last I recall the cvt when in Auto mode rarely ever uses the lowest ratio. But paddle shifters let you use it.
Only way to get 1st gear in my truck is to be under 5mph or basically stopped and manually pressing a special button. No way to down shift just about any car to 1st unless your hardly moving. Down shifting to 1st while moving can destroy a car pretty fast if done wrong.

I'm guessing 1st gear is to start from a dead stop and avoid startup lurch.

Downshifting to it maybe forbidden to avoid excessive engine RPM.
