I'd like to think sombody on this web site has an answer for this one but I bet not.

OK
My car is an 02 Outback wagon.
It has 313000 miles on it.
Check engine light is burned out ... it went on at about 130000 throwing the famous P420 Cat BS. No Thank You to the new cat! Light was on for 175000 miles and finally burned out a few thousand miles ago.
Need to replace it now.
Opened up the panel and pulled the bulb for the "Air Bag" bulb which by the way has been on for a long time too. Wanted to replace the "Check Engine" bulb with this bulb ( since I ignore the "Air Bag" bulb anyway and am too cheap to pay $12 for a little tiny bulb ) ... but when I pulled the "Air Bag" bulb out the "Check Engine" bulb came back on.

WHY THE F IS THAT? ANY MANY THANKS TO THE BRAIN THAT CAN TELL ME WHY!

You may have jiggled the cluster enough to get the filament to make contact again, I've done it before. The globe will stop working again real soon as the join is not that strong.

Check engine light

Timberwolf

Thanks for the confirmation. That thought came to me last night too. The timing seemed so perfect that it was designed to drive me crazy.

Amazing how my own actions can chip away at my own sanity.

I'll be OK.
