So I was stopped on a hill going up, and while the car was still in drive I pushed down firmly on the brake, then engaged the ebrake and hill assist. I got out of the car to get my mail in a hurry, forgetting to put it in park first. Didn't realize that until I got back a few seconds later. No big deal?

if you hit the link next to the question mark in my signature, you might describe such a vehicle.

one that is smart enough not to roll away and hit something.

No worse than sitting at a stop light with your foot on the brake. Think about it.

That said, it's never a good idea to get out of the car while it's still in gear ... for safety reasons.
