I am in the market to find a 2nd or 3rd gen outback, and need the most space possible. The gen 3 "looks" like it is smaller on the outside, but looks might be deceiving? Can anyone help that knows? thanks!

Ok thanks. Yeah i was just hoping to get a few personal opinions, from those who have sat inside each and can say which one "feels" bigger.

The platform used from the late 90's through 2009 is essentially the same exact platform regarding wheel placement and width - which means the seating space changes very little to if any at all for all of those years.

That is why we kept our 2001 till the larger wider - longer wheel base ie more rear seat room Gen 4 came out.
