Will a drive shaft from a 2004 Outback fit on my 2001 Outback? I bought a used 2001 Outback and only drove it for a month when the u-joints went bad. I have found a 2004 Outback at a salvage yard.:1zhelp:

It depends.

According to opposed forces, they have different part numbers, but I do not know why. Subaru is not known for making part numbers for the heck of it, but at the same time I do not know the differences between the shafts, especially with such odd production runs.

I have a 2005 which was made in 2004. So this can get confusing. Go back to the cars and look on the drivers door frame and see when the cars were made.
