in addition the the o-rings on the at-comp. hoses, older cars can have hoses that leak - from the crimps or thru the hose itself. And the Hi and lo ports can leak too.
I replaced the o-rings on the A/C compressor. The low-side one was probably fine, but the high-side one had turned into something resembling bakelite. Rather than slip off its mount, it cracked in two!

I have since charged the system (didn't evacuate it first), and the compressor will now kick on. If it holds some pressure for a couple of days, I'll assume that was it and have it vacuumed and recharged.

The system held charge for awhile. It would cycle off and blow warm on the freeway, so it would cool the car but not as well as I know it can.

I was able to take it back and have it vacuumed and recharged for free. It seems to blow as cold as ever!

Coming up soon: oil change and a bunch of deferred maintenance. Basically, 30k service and a brake job.
