I have a 2000 Outback "America" Wagon that likely needs a new engine owing to a bad timing belt. I have placed an add for it "as is" on Craig's List with an asking price of $1000. So far, I've had half a dozen inquiries with one actual offer of $700. The car has around 198 thousand miles on it. The body and interior are in pretty good shape with no discernible rust. Am I dreaming at $1000 or am I short changing myself?

Most of the folks who are good at rebuilding are also good at negotiating. Either price it higher and let them talk you down to $1k or stick to your guns.
