I have a 2006 Outback. I sill start it up, the idle will run fast, but when I press the gas peddle, there is no response. The 'check engine' light will come on. I have to disconnect the positive cable on the battery to reboot the computer. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how can I fix it? Thanks!

moved thread to 2005-09 section,

can't use the linked diagnostic code reader if you disconnect and clear codes. ,....so get it to have the problem and then try reading it with that a few times.

(takes a few tries sometimes).

Probably a worn out pedal encoder. Get the trouble code to verify it, and check the connector to make sure it didn't just come unplugged or something dumb like that.
