I've recently purchased a 2004 Subaru Outback with just 93,000km on the clock. The in-dash display began disappearing intermittently. The dealer had an auto-electrician remove it and send it to an instrument specialist for repair. The specialist tried and failed, saying that these displays (fuel consumption, clock, etc.) frequently give trouble. Used ones from the wreckers will most likely show the same fault, and new ones cost in excess of $500-00 each. Has anyone else had the same experience, and have they found a lower-cost solution?
