I really like the sport shift in my Gen3. I use it more than I thought I would. The only thing that bugs me is if I'm taking it to redline, I shift it at almost exactly the same time it shifts itself into 2nd and I end up in 3rd.
I drove a 2012 Legacy CVT for a day while they were correcting an issue on my 2008 and can't say I like the paddle shifters as much. As said, they're more convenient in a straight line, but not around a corner.
