You people have been incredibly helpful in the past so I'm hoping someone out there has an idea to help me. When I start my 2003 Outback I often smell fuel, raw gas, for a short time, then it goes away after driving for awhile. The exhaust system has been repaired and the tech checked for any gas leaks around the tank. Obviously I can't pass inspection like this - anyone have any thoughts?

I have had to tighten several philips-head screws under the hood on both my soobs. Seems as they get older, sometimes the fuel lines seep. Smell is worse in winter on cool mornings.

some folks have pinholes corroded-thru their filler pipes. You must remove the plastic cover to inspect. (this seems less likely for you as I'd expect a P0440 or similar code set and CEL on)

Maybe start with those?
