Ive had these things painted once by the dealer under warranty and once 5 years ago by me and the paint wears off after a couple of years. I know this is a common problem on the Gen 2's. Is powder coating these the only solution to this?

Powder coating plastic takes a little bit different process. You may be able to do it yourself since I believe it uses a lower temperature baking process. But do a little google search to see.

I've never heard of powder coating plastic. How is this done? Powder coating is an electronic process, isn't it? The parts are 'charged' and the powder sticks to them and then is baked on.

I'm assuming if there is an option for plastic it's a different process?

Maybe paint them with bed liner. hmmmm. I was considering having mine re-painted when I got a few pieces that would need paint in the future.

I did not know the base of these where plastic, it felt like some sort of metal attached to the plastic mirror, I guess the only solution would be to clear coat them 1/8 inch thick...

Thanks
