Hi Everyone just wanting a bit of info. I own a 1998 Subaru outback GEN1 and I got a bargain today and scored a 1998 Subaru Liberty. The liberty has a smaller engine I think 2.2 ltr, hi-lo range manual4wd box while my outback is Auto just wondering if anyone knows if it possible to swap the engine and gearbox over into the outback and what other parts should be interchangeable.

Any info would be much appreciated

Thankyou

you would need to swap the differentials, driveshafts etc, as the manausl and the automatic may have different ratios.

(typically liberty = legacy does not have the same gear ratio as the legacy outback. ).

but you can look them up too.

and don't forget the ECU out of the manual.

1998 is a changeover year. so that 2.2 maybe EJ222, and not a EJ221. I am unsure when they did that for the Aussie/Kiwi market.
(you can read the engine # on the build plate on one of the shock towers under the hood). important for maint/ parts for the engine intake / exhaust.
