Big thanks to these forums. I found an old thread that suggested a $14 LED bulb to replace the conventional old-style bulb in the rear dome in my 2020 Outback Limited XT. This thing works like a champ and only required swapping bulbs, nothing else. Easy. It comes in a two-pack and I’m giving the spare to a friend who has a 2022 OB. This particular friend had the conventional bulb drain her battery twice because she didn’t realize the rear dome was left on. That will never be a problem with this sucker. It is bright and matches the color temperature of all the other interior lights. Anyway, it’s an inexpensive upgrade and easy install I recommend, thanks to the recommendations of this website. Seems like a waste of the projector function. Still, I ordered a set based on the pic above alone. We use the cargo cover and even retracted the cover still blocks the dome light so I'm not sure how much these LEDs will help. But if we take the cover out we'll be sure to see better.

Looks like the genuine Subaru seat covers found here. I've had a set on mine since I got the car in 2020 and they've been great with the baby and dog.

I did same bulb replacement yesterday. Seemed strange that only the cargo area bulb was incandescent. If anyone else is going to do this simple mod, you will want to grab bulb to be removed and wiggle it while pulling downward. Note orientation of the wide part of the bulb base. Insert LED with same orientation. It will take a modicum of force, but it will "pop" in.

No, the 23 has non user replaceable LED lights in the trunk.

Insert LED with same orientation. It will take a modicum of force, but it will "pop" in.

On my wilderness, the cargo area bulb wasn't the only incandescent. The front door puddle lights, and both visor vanity bulbs were also.

Mine had some sort of lighting upgrade package. I never turned on vanity lights. They are indeed incandescent! Didn't even know I had puddle lights as I am mesmerized by the LEDs in the mirrors (coming through Subaru logo). I think we need to get out at night more often!

What did you do with your 6th Gen Outback today?

I put ours in last night. Odd about the new bulbs, they don't really seem to "pop" in. Much like the OEM bulbs they more like just stick in. They don't seem very positive but they are in and work wonders for light back there. I inspected the OEM bulbs and the new LEDs and the bayonet socket seems to be the same shape and style. The LED bayo is actually longer so you'd think it would go farther in and be more positive with the insert.
I didn't want to force things and break something. The original bulbs were hard to get out, stubborn. Especially so with my working man's man fingers. I could barely get hold of the old bulb.
Will see if these stay or if I need to do something different.
Bulbs work well, I'm tempted to get a set for the reverse lights.
