Has anyone put coaxial speakers in front doors (with OEM tweeter kit)?

I'm talking about a Gen 4 Outback. Mine has the Subaru Tweeter kit in the dash with stock speakers in all the doors. I have an aftermarket head unit which has helped with the overall sound. Quite honestly, since my *loud stereo* days are essentially over, I am quite satisfied with head unit power, stock speakers, and my aftermarket under-seat subwoofer.

I sometimes want to put better speakers in, but 99% of the time I don't listen at levels that would even matter.

Couple questions:
  1. How are the dash tweeters wired in relation to the front door speakers?
  2. Has anybody ever added coaxial speakers in addition to the stock tweeters?
  3. Is this a terrible idea?

The reason I ask is that if it would be any kind of improvement, it would be very easy and relatively inexpensive to pop in some coaxials in all 4 doors and call it a day.

But if it's going to be crap, then installing a set of proper components up front will cost more and require more labor on my part. I tend to favor quick and easy projects these days...

Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi, Have a 2016 Outback and have thought to do the same with some Alpine S series 6x9 coax while retaining the corner dash tweeters and base model OEM head unit. I felt the in dash tweeters were sounding OK and suspected they had a larger range than normal tweeters. Trouble: On the speakers box, the inside flap, it says under SPECS "Warning, this product contains a high performance tweeter. If there is a tweeter already installed in your car then you must disconnect it's terminals. If you leave the original tweeter connected and connect this product in parallel, then a fault may develop in this product so you are strongly recommended not to do so".
The guys at the shop told me the OEM tweeters were in parallel.
So, I will now be going back to buy the splits just to be safe. Another thing was the shop told me I could just replace the dash tweeter with the split but I thought I might have to run a wire from the woofer thinking the crossover might be in the woofer. More complicated than I thought. The shop guys (specialists) were not very helpful. I think they wanted to install it themselves. No wiring harnesses or spacers or anything there available in the shop. Any info appreciated.
Sceptic.

I think it's merely a poor translation from Japanese. If the OEM tweeter is installed parallel to the Alpine coaxial, it's true that the system won't sound the same as Alpine intended the speakers to perform, as the extra tweeter will throw off the sound balance, however, even Subaru's own speaker upgrades swap the full-range door speakers for coaxials, and include dash tweeters without removing them.

I have added co axials to all four doors along with a Pioneer GM-D1004 400W 4-Channel to my 2017 OB Premium with a non-HK Subaru radio. My goal was to get richer sound at low volume and I think I succeeded.
The factory radio probably outputs 7 to 10 watts and isn't capable of creating deep bass at low volume.

I used Kenwood KFC-6966S 4 ohm in the front doors and PIONEER TS-A1676R 4 OHM in the rear. The OEM dash speakers have not been replaced and I didn't change any crossover devices.

Is the sound dramatically changed? No, probably not. But I had fun doing it and I can hear richer sound at volume level 10 - 12.
