I’ve been trying to find a way to part out my Wilco off-road tire carrier and still ride with a full size spare, the Wilco is great but with the pin system it’s a pain to get in and out especially for my wife. I have a yakima skybox on the roof that takes away the ability to roof mount it and with two kids and two dogs I don’t see the cabin being a good solution either. Is there a way to mount the tire to the hatch and upgrade the struts to compensate for the weight??

You would need to know the weight of the spare tire wouldn't you?

That's assuming those little m6 (?) bolts could hold that much extra weight.

You could mount it on the roof of the sky box. :D

but then I would need better struts for the skybox haha. I would look like a ship going down the road.

I'm not sure the sheetmetal of the tailgate would tolerate the additional weight attached to it. It might need quite a bit of reinforcing; bridging the outer sheet metal to the inner skin and adding another layer to distribute the load over a larger area.
