Hit the 150k mark and it a clear sign that im losing way more coolant than I should and the mix of oil and coolant is apparent at the rear of the engine. At this point of time my gen 2 is my daily driver but in a few days I'll be able to have the luxury of driving a spare car while my OB can get worked on. the question is there any brand (felpro is a brand I off the top of my head) that will exceed OEM specifications? thicker material etc. I don't mind a shop charging me labor for installing the hg. Don't have the time to work on it. Also is there any other parts I should replace as well?

get the oem turbo mls headgasket. now it's sold as the improved design/version but it's just the gasket from the turbo they had the whole time, at least as far as i can tell. maybe the holes are a tiny bit different or something. in the past, dealerships and independent shops kept using the old oem HG design and people kept having to change their HG's over and over again... i think that's what you're trying to avoid. :)

the ebay seller subarupartsdirect(good seller) has them, as well as others. oem part# 11044AA642

also, get some The Right Stuff by Permatex and reseal the two covers on either side of the rear main seal (and maybe change the rear main seal [$12 on ebay] if it will be done properly). one is the separator cover and i'm drawing a blank on the other cover. If they aren't already leaking oil, they will be soon. The oil pan should probably be resealed if it doesn't have a real gasket or if it's leaking, as it's a PITA to pull once the engine is back in.

good luck.

Yeah I already ordered an Oil Pan as well with gasket maker because it was “seep” leaking from the top as well. Figured I’d get that done as well. And 75 bucks for thicker material and some resealer is the direction I’m head towards. Thanks for the advice

these don't have a store bought gasket on the pan, although rock auto sells one.

just a bunch of RTV/ gasket maker goop to produce a pan seal.

Yep got some black RTV from the parts store a couple weeks back and will use that. I guess the oil pans never featured gaskets just like the tran pans aswell from the factory I guess?
