Hello Guys,

I was a lurker on the forum for about a month. Picked up a new 2010 Subaru outback on Friday night. So far I am loving it. I went ahead with the purchase to buy even after all the discussion on steering wobble. I'm glad to report at this time with low miles that I do not have the steering wheel wobble. I went ahead and purchased the extended warrentee though I dont think ill need it(First time owning a subaru so just to be safe). I got my subaru 2.5i base model through the Costco Program. If you are a custco member this deal is great if you are not a costco memeber I suggest becoming a member just for the savings. I purchased my outback for 1000 under Invoice pricing. Comes to about 2500 below MSRP. Nice savings and well pays for the Costco membership. This pricing is supposed to be "Secret" as they dont even give it to you until you come into the dealership and show them your costco card. I dont know if it varies state by state I do know that it varies model by model.

Heres to many miles in the new subi!

(Love the CVT transmission and the paddle shifters make this a fun car)

We looked into this, but dealer participation was not good in this region. Closest participating dealer was almost 3 hours away and didn't have the stock we wanted. Glad it worked out well for you!

Costco

I've already been told - verbally - by my dealer that they are willing to work with us to get $500 over invoice. So, I'm not sure about the whole Costco thing. $1000 under invoice is a great deal and better than the partners (like IMBA) discounts. Brettclutch, are you sure it was $1000 under invoice? Or was it a $1000 under sticker?

He indicated it came in about $2500 under sticker. I am more than a little surprised that Costco pricing is $1000 below invoice, having researched this issue thoroughly. I joined Leave No Trace to get 2% below invoice, which for me, was about $600 under. From everything I read, that was as good as it was gonna get.

I paid $1700 under MSRP which was $1000.00 over Dealer invoice on a 3.6r. I think we should all realize that most of these numbers are pulled out of a hat. If we are going to be helpful just use under MSRP as this number is constant to all.

The problem with MSRP is that it's less meaningful than Invoice. MSRP is a made-up # (moreso than Invoice $). Sure, with a given option list, at any given point in time the Invoice and MSRP should be the same across all locales.

It might make sense to use MSRP if you live in an area that the dealers sell/discount off the MSRP $ or don't discount at all, but I think in a lot of areas the dealers do work off Invoice which is readily available to us all on the internets.

Another problem with MSRP is when the dealer puts on non-subaru accessories or window VIN etching and charges you $300 or whatever for it. What was the real cost of the service or accessory vs. what you paid?

Besides, we don't get a thrill getting $ off MSRP. It's much more fun to say we got $xx off "what the dealer paid for the car." (yes, we know about holdback, advertising, volume incentives, etc)

Late in our shopping we noticed at least one dealership (not Subaru) playing fast and loose with "invoice." They would publish an "invoice" price but then add destination back onto that when giving a final quote.

Basically trying to give the impression that you were getting some great deal at "X" over invoice, when it was really "X + 700" over invoice.

I think they count on the general public not knowing that true invoice price has destination included, though MSRP does not.
