Nice board! I just ordereda 2005 Outback XT Limited in silver with 5 speed manual last Monday. It should be in by the end of July/ beginning of August and I'm extremely excited! I currently drive an 02 WRX wagon, but that **** thing is too small and after all the mods I've done it rides too hard and is too brutal/ loud. Can't wait to get the OB XT!

Good to see you here in the 'Outback' forums. The WRX has a lot of potential but space can be a commodity. I have an OBS wagon and I love it, maybe a tad too small but much better than a sedan of some sort. Talk at you later. Brian

Welcome to a Subaru board that doesn't treat Outbacks like unwanted stepchildren!

Before I bought my 98 OB, I looked at a few in parking lots. Once I took an opportunity to park my 89 3-door Escort next to a new OBS. I was wondering about how much room they had. With the cars side-by-side, the proportions were surprisingly similar - length of hood, distance to front and rear seatbacks, even the overall vehicle length.

*snif* the junkyard towed that Escort away last week...

***I don't know if i should laugh at the escort, or offer my condolences... (i had a tiny '88 toyota truck that was my baby the first few years i had my license... still cry when i see it drive by me on the road...) ***

jedi--- Welcome to the wonderful, and ever so popular world of the Outback! I can assure you, once you've had 'Back, you never go... um... back. :p

Congrats on the new '05... me and my '97 OBS are definitely jealous. :4:

Well, I got 217Kmi out of it so I can't complain. It was money well spent, and I really did enjoy driving it.

And, I called it a "sneak station wagon" because I normally ran it with the rear seat down, and made use of the big cargo area. Lots of campng gear went in there ...

But, when I was shopping for a Subaru in 1998, I had a choice of OB/OBS/Forester. Since the Escort was too short to carry a bicycle inside, I had long ago made up my mind that my next car would have a larger cargo area. So I passed over the OBS and had a choice of Forester or OB. IMHO the Forester looked too boxy. The OB was long and sleek ... mmm, like a horse's head ... but I digress.

So I bought the biggest shell they offered. Actually, the salesman told me the 98 Forester had a slightly larger cargo volume than the OB because the body was taller inside. But the OB cargo bed was longer, and I figured I would more often carry something long, than tall. (This has proved true.)

So after six years, and lord knows how many ton-miles of cargo, I'm still glad that I'm running the bigger shell. Meanwhile the car is getting worn and battered, and ... it's my new Escort. Finally, my beater car is an AWD wagon.

Wow- thanks for the welcome guys! My digital camera is itching to snap some pix- can't wait to see what the car looks like in XT trim- the one on the showroom floor was a 2.5i Outback and was the reason I changed my order from Legacy GT wagon to Outback!
