Subaru 2005 H6 OB Sedan

The serpentine belt came loose off the idler pulley. Once I unscrewed the Idler pulley I found melted metal and a melted ring. This melted gasket/ring was nearest to the engine and away from the pulley. Pl see pic # 1.

Questions:

1. What has caused this?
2. Where can I buy the gasket/ring?
3. Where is nut located to loosen the belt , so that I can mount it on the pulley?

This is my son's car. I do not want to go to the dealership since I have 2 kids in college.

The bearing on the idler has failed. It's not uncommon. See this thread (one of a fair number here) for help:

Also see the attached diagram for the layout.

Looks as if the shaped washer (#9 in the diagram) has failed. Might have to get this from the dealer, but read through the thread first -- someone might have dealt with this before, and try the "search" function for other posts on the H6 serpentine belt idler bearing.
