There is also a Forrester and Crosstrek recall from last March for a brake light issue:

Now this is very concerning. It's been known for decades that airborne silicones do exactly this sort of thing around switched contacts; whatever possessed Subaru engineers to not use a sealed contact here?

Never mind, I think I know the answer to my own question.

$10 part falls into engine and ruins it. Neat.
Yea, the least they could do is make the part that falls apart cost $400, say like a turbocharger. Then you wouldn't feel so bad about such an inexpensive part ruining an expensive engine. :devilish:
