Yet you can go to any large city and find automatic transmission shops that have been in business for decades. A couple near me have been in business for 50+ years.

Traditional automatic transmissions seem to fail more not than ever. Auto makers are now fitting 8,9 and 10 speeds in the same space that used to be occupied by 3 and 4 speeds. What could go wrong?

On paper, the CVT should be a more reliable transmission. It is a simpler design......until engineers start mucking with it and add things like fake shift points.
Those shops have fleet contracts, there is no way they would survive otherwise.

It could also paralyze you from making any decision. All machines will require maintenance. Eventually, they will all need replacement. Make the best decision you can with the information you have available to you. Don't lose sleep over it.

Well this thread has gone from RAV4 to who knows what. I am going to close it and let you all feel free to carry on whatever conversation in a dedicated thread elsewhere.
