Most of the mirrors on the market today are made by a couple of supplers; Mito and Gentex. While manufacturers have some variations in exterior look, most are the same. The exceptions are German and other European brands.

I'm curious how much if any part sharing or engineering (besides the BRZ/FRS) goes on between Toyota and Subaru today.

I am pretty sure the heated seat switches are shared with nissans. Companies share parts.

Third brake lamp used on the Legacy is the same one used in the last gen Camry, I havent paid close enough attention to the new Camry to detect if it still is the same unit. Can't think of much else though at this second.

A friend of mine had a 07 Toyota Solarias and the cloth seat design and material looked very close to what is in my 10 Outback

Yep. My Veracruz has the exact same mirror except for the rear camera insert.

Not really....VAG uses tons of shared parts across Porsche/Audi/VW lines (And Lambo too). Opel/Vauxhall is all GM. My Volvo I had before the Outback was loaded with Ford parts. Saab I had before that was loaded with GM/Opel parts. I guess BMW and Merc would be the only exceptions...about the only "true" solo automakers left!

Toyota owns a stake of Subaru, so we are likely to see more shared parts in the future.

I recall the Outback/Legacy is built in a shared plant with the Toyota Camry, so the Subaru/Toyota parts sharing seems smart.

My E30 BMW's fuel filter was the same as a 300ci F-150's
My ES300 lexus and my 97' Outback's seats were practically identical other then color and headrests.

Back when I had an '07 Hyundai Elentra, I noticed that the AC control dials were the exact same ones as used in the Toyota Corolla and the Nissan Sentra of the day, if I remember correctly.

Guess they got just all got the same part from the same vendor.
