I've got a 2013 with the same setup and haven't experienced any problems. Setup was fine and picked up the Bluetooth pretty quickly. Maybe delete the settings on your stereo for the old phone?
iphone 5 will not audio stream
I hope I'm not rehashing something that has came up and been resolved, I did do a search.
I'm an owner of a 2012 Outback with Harmon Kardon and NAV. I hav been audio streaming with my iphone 4 without problems, and this weekend I upgraded to the iphone 5 and after pairing the blutooth I can use the phone, send or receive calls but when I try to audio stream I get the message, "Blutooth Connection Failed" I called Apple Support, with no luck, tried resetting everything, and still no luck.
Is there a fix for this?

delete the phone from the headunit and repair using the bluetooth audio option... or, whatever it's called.

Yup, do this. You need to do it on both the phone and the head unit. The issue is partly that your iPhone 5 "remembers" the pairing, but the head unit doesn't recognize your iPhone 5 (different device). You have to re-pair from scratch.agreed.

I got it paired today.
I called my dealer,spoke to the SM ,he suggested it not only had to be paired to the hands free phone operation but also must be paired in Audio BT once I approached it with that in mind it made sense. I wish I could provide screen shots. As I recall I clicked on settings/setup/ then BT Audio the system then had an active REGISTER button when I touched Register it paired the audio and BT streaming worked. I hope this helps the next person

Can I have my phone be paired for calls but not BT audio? It activates my phone's default media player which I do not want it to do (Samsung Galaxy S2, android 4.2.2).

Hey I picked up a 2010 outback 3.6R today with Nav. Here's the deal!
If you want to program your PHONE ONLY, then go in through menu, setup, and program your phone that way. I had done that and couldn't get streaming audio to work. When I went to program the streaming audio through hitting the tune button and settings it made me disconnect in order to register a new "BT Audio Device. I disconnected, but stilly didn't work, so I deleted the hands free aspect from my PHONE ONLY, not head unit, and tried register BT audio device again, and that did the trick.
BUT, here's where I'm stuck, and if anyone else knows the answer (not thinks they know) please chime in. The previous owners "phone book" and recent calls were still on my head unit when I got my car, an even after I was paired and connected with the hands free feature. When I try to "download" / "add" my phonebook from my phone it simply doesn't work.
Also does anyone know how to add a name to a user saved POI/pin drop? I drive by places that look like good fishing holes and like saving them, but it won't help if they're all un named POI's. Anybody know???
