Is this a good price?

This is my first new car and I'm looking for a decent price, but it's ok if it's not the deal of the century...

2011 Subaru Outback Limited with moonroof w/back up camera, wheel moldings, splashguards, and rear bumper cover, graphite grey color.

Used Costco auto program to get price of $29,434. Dealer is giving me $3250 for my trade (kelley blue book value of $3500 - other dealers offered between $2000-$3000 for my old car).

Including tax, fees, license, etc. out the door at $28200 and change.

Truecar says it's a great price, but it's $150 above the lowest certified price listed there. But that place is 200 miles away and was going to give me less for my trade.

Did I do ok?

Take a brief guess re buying a car 200 miles away ... and you didn't take the new car home on your way back... if you take new car on way home then they'll give you full tank of gas free... again what if they lowball you on the trade-in?

Gasoline $18 each way x 2 = r/t $36
3 hours each way x 2 = r/t hr 6
How much do you estimate your time cost, $50/hr = $300

If the diff is only $150 ... I will stay close.
Since you were using Costco the dealer should have showed you invoice and then some set Costco price for your region. How far away from invoice was this? When I was doing my research before buying I figured I should be very happy if I could get invoice or lower.

So my only question would be whether or not you got a good offer on the trade-in, and it sounds like you did, so you probably did a good job.

For your reference, I also bought via the Costco program and the dealer offered the car to me for $835 (3%) below invoice (MSRP was $28,724, invoice was $26,835, my price was $26,000). My understanding is that the Costco pricing is set per region, per vehicle, so YMMV with that program... but I was very happy with it.
I'm also looking at a 2011 OB 2.5i Premium with Protection Pkg 1A, AWP, Auto Dimming Mirror, floor mats and wheel lock kit in caramel bronze. Checked with the dealer in Albuquerque and the sticker is $28083, invoice appears to be approximately $26,100 (based on my research). Can you really get the Outback below invoice via Costco?

There is Subaru VIP program invoice - 2%. You need to join one of Subaru sponsored group. After 6 months you can apply a voucher or letter then bring to dealer for this pricing. It is really no hassle. Lease & Options included, also entitle for any Subaru specials, like low int rates. Membership is $35

Thanks! I took the deal...

According to truecar, invoice on my car would be $29648...so the Costco price of $29434 is just a little below invoice (0.7%).

I guess with the VIP program I could have gotten $29116 and saved $318 but I didn't have a lot of confidence that dealers wouldn't just make up that difference by lowballing my trade...plus wasn't worth it to me to wait 6 months for $300.

To be clear, my understanding from the dealer I worked with is that Costco has a 'no haggle' price, set by region and relative to invoice, for each trim level (base vs. premium vs. limited; 2.5i vs. 3.6R) and model (OB vs. Forester vs. Tribeca etc.). I'm not sure what the regions are, but in my case the dealer showed me that a 2.5i OB Premium in the Chicago area would be $0 over invoice via the Costco program. The same price may not exist in, for example, Los Angeles or Miami.

Without any prompting or negotiation, he offered the car to me for $835 lower than the set Costco price for my 2.5i Premium. I'm not sure why he did that without any input from me, but I wasn't about to ask why :)

I did not immediately agree to buy, but instead went to two other local dealerships to see if they would be willing to match that price. Both dealers said they would match that price even though they were not formal Costco partners. In the end I went with the original dealer since they went the extra mile to get the exact car I wanted.

In Seattle, the Costco price is $450 over invoice. Apparently Northwesterners are willing to pay more.

And/or demand is higher. Neither would surprise me :)
I'm in the same boat.. Shopping around for a 2011 OB 2.5 Prem CVT.. With the AWP,homelink/autodim, puddle light, was 25,369+ttl.. Is this a good price? Suggesting 25 even, they seemed to want to deal..

you should have no problem getting the car at $25K even.
