98 JDAM motor with "60/70,000" miles on it is running well in my 252,000 miles Outback with new head gaskets. Does the ex. Japan domestic EJ25 motor run a higher compression ratio than the USA models? It seems to have more poke above 3,000 rpm and has a slightly lumpy idle at 650 rpm (A/C off), as if it has slightly hotter cams. No check engine lights or other problems. :)

you can google it. a few more horsepower but technically may need to decipher how much is due to different testing, different gas, different emissions, different engine configurations, and if you retained your original USDM manifold did you loose some of the gains by swapping the USDM intake, fuel rails/supply, throttle body...etc...so really you may have a US/JDM engine right now...not a 100% JDM configuration.

a few hp difference for sure but some of the difference came from removing a quarter million mile engine and installing a 60,000 mile engine.

USDM EJ25 SOHC = 165 (MY99)
USDM EJ25 DOHC = 165 (MY98)
USDM EJ25 = 155 (MY96)

JDM EJ25 DOHC AVCS = 170 (BE/BH Legacy B4 RS25/Lancaster/250S)
JDM EJ25 DOHC AVCS = 167 (SF Forester T/25)
JDM EJ25 DOHC =175 (BE/BH Legacy 250T MY97)

Where did you get the engine from? Was there a need to swap over sensors, or other items?

Later, T.J.
