I have a 2003 Subaru outback. My left break light stays on until I hit the break pedal then it turns off. How can I solve this issue?

could be the bulb, or corrosion in the socket.

As above, the 2003 has four, dual filament, i.e., combined tail and brake lights across the back; one each in the outer fenders, and two in the trim piece under the hatch window. All four are #1157 bulbs.

In addition to what has been suggested . . .

My left break light stays on until I hit the break pedal then it turns off.
What about the other three brake lights? Do they turn on when the brake pedal is pressed down, and go out when the pedal is released?

Does the symptom happen when ignition switch is at Off (key out)?

Is the separate Parking Lights switch on top of the steering column between the steering wheel and the instrument cluster also turned Off?

When the parking lights are turned on, do all four tail light bulbs across the back (and the two white lights over the license plate) light up?

NOTE: There seems to be two threads on this with the exact same Subject, and same first post time. The other is Left break light stays on
