I give up, can't find it anywhere in the book. What is that little blue indicator light in the center of the overhead console between the map lights? It's on most all the time...

It's not an indicator. It's low-level lighting for the console area, and I think it's PRETTY COOL!

Turn your dash lights down some night and look at the console.

Yep...it glows down to give your center console some light. I had a VW that had red lights like that in the bottom of the mirror. They gave a nice red reflection off the console and really made a nice difference.

Every cockpit in any commercial aircraft has a similar ambient illumination with similar night illumination (mostly red) that does not conflict with reading the instrument panel gauges and fly-by-wire instruments. Some of the members on this forum could confirm that as well....

Yep, same for naval aviation: aircraft carrier ready rooms, ward room,
bridge, flight deck, and adjacent passageways. Red lighting only. Also,
red lighting on instrument panels, red flashlights, and red goggles for
aviators, bridge watch, etc. anywhere that white lighting was required.

That was 40+ years ago, but I'll bet it's still the same -- because the
basic physiology of night vision is relatively stable ...

Isn't the BT mic up there? It might simply be an indicator light. I like to think it keeps the government from reading my thoughts.

The BT mic is up there, but the light is just ambient light for the shifter. It does actually make it easier to see at night. The blue light in this case is mostly to match up with the blue illumination kit that you can have installed.

Yeup. Amateur astronomers are in the same boat. I'm kinda glad most of the lighting in the 2013 is now red. I also swapped out the door lights with dim red bulbs to try to improve things a little.

Just a thought here...I don't drive a semi but I deal with truckers. Many of them have a much brighter blue light installed under their dash. I was told that it keeps down on glare. My company car, a CRV has one too but much dimmer.

It is most certainly the same today as it was then.
