Is there a doable way to repair a cracked expansion joint in the exhaust manifold of a 2008 Legacy 2.5i? The crack is right in the bellows looking thing up front where it crosses from driver to pass side.

Typically part of the problem is that the exhaust "donut" gasket (the exhaust joint where the bolts with the springs are) has expanded from rust and caused that portion of the exhaust to become rigid, hence transferring excessive vibrations to the flex joints and cracking them. You should replace that gasket and accompanying bolts, during the repairs.

The only option to repair the cracked expansion/flex joint, would be to cut it out and weld in a small universal flex joint of similar length. Otherwise, the only other option is to replace the entire exhaust header, those are available on rockauto.com with more reasonable pricing.
