Hey all,
A few more problems have arrived for 2020 in my 05 OBXT.
A few more problems have arrived for 2020 in my 05 OBXT.
- First, my transmission is still shifting kind of hard (this post details what I've gone through 2005 XT 5EAT Transmission Woes). Again, is at it's worse when ice cold. I took the skid plate off to have a gander at leaks from underneath the engine, and first thing I noticed was that a transmission cooling line at the bottom of the radiator was leaking a little bit of fluid, my mechanic said it was just loose and they tightened it. My thoughts are that my harsh shifting (still) could be because of low fluid. I have no idea how long that cooling line had been leaking. I have been keeping very close tabs on the transmission fluid level via the dipstick, and it seems that it is quite low. I also bought a quart of genuine Subaru HP-ATF to fill it back up to the Upper Level (HOT) on the dipstick. But I am doing this very slowly (everytime I come home from a drive I fill it up a little bit, because I do not want to overfill). Any thoughts/suggestions on this being the culprit of harsh shifting when cold?
- Second, my vibration at idle in gear is quite harsh now (even my grandpa noticed it, and he doesn't notice anything). After I took off the skid plate, I noticed quite a lot of fluid around the cross member and the rear of the oil pan that was dripping onto the pavement. My engine oil, diff. oil, and power steering fluid levels all look fine and don't drop. How can I check the level of my coolant if it's that? I can't tell what the fluid is (definitely not red though). I then took it to my mechanic where they said that passenger side engine mount is leaking it's fluid, and that it could possibly be the cause of this leak. Could that be why I am getting vibration in gear while stopped? I know that this symptom is also a problem with aftermarket CV axles, which I believe mine are. I did however try this trick where someone is in the car with it idling in gear, and I poked a broom handle around to see if I could find the source of the vibration, I put in on both CV axles, felt nothing. But when I popped the hood, the engine was vibrating like a madman. Thoughts/suggestions on this?
