Just purchased my first subaru, a 2010 Outback 2.5i premium. After a week of driving, my rear hatch wont open with the button located above the license plate. I removed all the trim and attempted to locate the problem but nothing seems to make sense. I removed the latch mechanism fully and used a 12v drill battery to give it power to see if the mechanism was bad but it worked just fine. No issues with any other electrical connected to the hatch and kinda stumped. Not seeing any helpful information on any forums I've read through.

Just thinking - Are you getting power to the latch since it sounds like it works when power is applied?
If you are not getting power, and all fuses have been checked and are good, then I would look at the wire bundle coming into the hatch at it's hinge point.
