Hello again,

I've got a '99 OBW with a mysterious noise coming from the transmission area, as you go faster and go through the gear the noise becomes a higher and higher pitch. The "experts" don't think it is coming from the actual transmission and are leaning towards the differential or a wheel. Anybody sound like they've had the same issue before?

The noise is only when you are rolling, neutral included, as you go faster is becomes more and more high pitch.

Have you checked to make sure it has gear oil in it? A manual can get pretty noisy when the gear oil level drops. The noise will be there as long as the car is moving and be louder under load ie in gear and accelerating most people tend to notice the gear noise caused by low gear oil more in the shorter gears say 1-3 also.
