Hi guys, I recently (2 days ago) bought my grandfather's 02 Outback from him and sold his Brumby back to him which I had owned for four years.

Im looking to do a few mods and upgrades to the car and was wondering if people could point me in a few good directions.

Im looking to upgrade the head unit to a new 2 din model. I was wondering if anyone has done this and how successful they were and any recommended models that fit well.

I want to get a cat back exhaust and new muffler, get a nice rumble. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations and possibly anyone I can see, I live in Adelaide.

Wheels, this car will not be used for any off road driving so I am looking at getting some aftermarket rims. Most likely 17' and I was just wondering if people know some brand of wheels that fit without any/minimal tweaking and what other models of Suby have similar/same stud pattern as an 02 Outback

Thanks for any help you can dish out.

Welcome to the forums, lots of good info here search is your friend. As to your questions I think all subs are the same patterns just different offsets I could be wrong though. Keeping mine stock apart from lighting upgrades, and also we are lucky over here as most jdm stuff is interchangable with ours. That's about all I know.

Naturally, shipping from the States could be a non-starter for most of the items you'd be interested in, however, by searching the Forum and places like Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels , you could at least collect some brands/model numbers of compatible parts. Then, try to discover which of those might be sourced from an antipodean retailer. For instance, if you find a Kosei wheel you like for your car at Tirerack's site, you might need to go to the manufacturer's website (even emailing them) to locate dealers in your area.

Even the Oz ebay might be a good source for you.

you might also visit www.ultimatesuabru.org . I think there are 2-3 Aussies lurking over there that might have some tips.

Import Monster, based in Melbourne, can be expensive for jdm parts. Search for bh9 you will be suprised as to what there is on yahoo auctions, don't strictly know how it works with then a yahoo though.

If I had the money, and need I would see mark at exhaust technology for the exhaust, has done some quality work for me before on my rx4 coupe.

Congrats on the purchase!

If its the 2.5L motor, then a 2.25" cat back system would be your best bet. Any larger and its just for noise and you potentially loose performance from loss of back pressure.

Any Subaru 17"inch wheel will fit. Avoid low profile tyres unless you are planning on lowering your Outback. Low profiles on standard height Outbacks look odd because the wheels look really small in those large wheel arches. Stick to Outback or Forester rims/tyres if possible....
